Junior Showmanship Awards:
Top Junior Awards – These awards are given to the top boys and girls (at least 9 years old and under 18 years old) showing Shar-Pei in Junior Showmanship classes during the year. The number of dogs defeated is recorded by the Junior Advisor from the AKC Awards records, and tallied at the end of the year. The Junior with the most accumulated points in each region (West, Central and East) is recognized by the CSPCA. A Certificate will be given to the Top Jr. from each region. Of these winners, the Junior with the highest number of accumulated points overall, (Top Overall Jr.) will receive a plague for the Highest Overall Junior of the Year.
Ernest Albright Junior Handler Memorial Grants:
Ernest Albright Program for Junior Handlers will be administered and governed, as amended and as occasions demand, by the CSPCA, Inc. Board of Directors as follows:
The CSPCA Board of Directors establishes the Ernest Albright Junior Handler Memorial Grant and will determine the annual funding available for grant applicants.
The Ernest Albright Junior Handler Memorial Grant Trust will be divided annually into three (3) grants, “The Westminster Kennel Club CSPCA Junior Handler Grant” the “AKC/Eukanuba National Championship Grant and,” “The CSPCA Junior Handler National Specialty Grant.” The Westminster Kennel Club CSPCA Junior Grant and the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship Grant may be awarded annually to CSPCA Junior Members qualifying for the events and meeting criteria. Each initial individual grant is in the amount of $500. A CSPCA Junior Member must qualify for the Westminster Kennel Club and AKC/Eukanuba Grants according to the criteria specified by those organizations. A Junior Member may apply for the grants each year they are eligible. In one calendar year, a Junior Member qualifying for both grants may receive the full amount ($500) for one grant and ($250) for the second grant. Junior Members may receive a maximum of $750 for the Westminster and AKC/Eukanuba Grants in one calendar year.
Criteria for “The Westminster Kennel Club CSPCA Junior Handler” Grant:
- The Junior Handler must be a member in good standing of the CSPCA
- The Junior Handler must have qualified for participation in the Westminster Kennel Club Show with all 10 qualifying Open Class wins being earned while showing a Chinese Shar-Pei. The Junior Handler must have competition present in their respective Open Class – a Best Junior Handler win without CLASS COMPETITION does not qualify as an Open Class win.
- The Junior Handler must be a full-time student, attending an accredited school within the jurisdiction in which the Junior Handler resides OR a private school, fully accredited by a recognized accreditation society, as a full-time student outside the jurisdiction of the Junior Handler’s domicile OR participate in home-schooling under the rules and regulations for such as established by the proper jurisdiction governing home-schooling in the Junior Handler’s domicile. (If the state or commonwealth in which the Junior Handler resides has no laws, regulations, or guidelines for home schooling, the Junior Handler MUST be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited school.)
Criteria for the “AKC/Eukanuba National Championship” Grant (added 2009)
- The Junior Handler must be a member in good standing of the CSPCA.
- The Junior Handler must have qualified for participation in the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship show, with all 5 qualifying Open Class wins being earned while showing a Chinese Shar-Pei. The Junior Handler must have competition present in their respective Open Class – a Best Junior Handler win without CLASS COMPETITION does not qualify as an Open Class win. Wins must be earned between October to October of the following year. Juniors must be under 18 years of age at the time of the wins. Age on the day of the show has no bearing.
- The Junior Handler must be a full-time student, attending an accredited school within the jurisdiction in which the Junior Handler resides OR a private school, fully accredited by a recognized accreditation society, as a full-time student outside the jurisdiction of the Junior Handler’s domicile OR participate in home-schooling under the rules and regulations for such as established by the proper jurisdiction governing home-schooling in the Junior Handler’s domicile. (If the state or commonwealth in which the Junior Handler resides has no laws, regulations, or guidelines for home schooling, the Junior Handler MUST be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited school.)
- Juniors must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 or equivalent for the two semesters completed immediately prior to the closing of entries. GPA must be verified by an official school transcript or home school information sent in and received by AKC prior to the entry form being sent to the Junior.
- Official transcripts or home school information must be sent to the CSPCA Junior Advisor with the Grant Application Letter no later than the official deadline for application. It is the Junior’s responsibility to ensure that Junior Advisor has received all necessary documentation.
All CSPCA Junior Handlers who meet the criteria for eligibility and who wish to be considered for a grant must submit a letter of application to the CSPCA Junior Handler Advisor. This letter must be submitted and received NO LATER than the fifteenth (15th) day of December in the calendar year preceding their anticipated participation in either the Westminster Kennel Club Junior Handler Competition, the Junior Handler competition at the CSPCA National Specialty or the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship Grant. Required documentation that the Junior Handler meets the criteria of eligibility must be included with the letter. All letters of application must be signed by both the Junior Handler and a parent or legal guardian, acknowledging the terms and conditions of the grant.
A recipient of a grant MUST exhibit a Chinese Shar-Pei at the designated event. If a Junior Handler exhibits a breed in competition other than a Chinese Shar-Pei, the Junior Handler must immediately return all funds granted to the Junior Handler back to the CSPCA, or face loss of membership in good standing with the CSPCA. If the funds are not returned immediately, the CSPCA parent/guardian member will also be under sanction from the CSPCA, facing loss of membership in good standing. Any Junior Handler receiving said grant must attend and exhibit in competition or refund all monies back to CSPCA immediately. The Junior Handler receiving the grant, as well as their parent or legal guardian, must sign a binding agreement upholding the conditions and rules of the grant process.
Criteria for “The CSPCA Junior Handler National Specialty” Grant:
The CSPCA Junior Handler National Specialty Grant is available to every Junior Member attending the Annual National Specialty Show who meets the established criteria. Grant payouts are available in the amount of $150 and may be applied for and earned multiple years.
- The applicant must be a Junior Member of the CSPCA
- Have shown Chinese Shar-Pei in AKC Junior Showmanship competitions at least four times in the same calendar year as applying for grant.
- Write a 200 word or more essay on a subject related to the Chinese Shar-Pei
- Successful completion of a canine anatomy quiz
- Attend all Junior activities and seminars while at Nationals
- Works for CSPCA in some designated capacity for at least 4 hours during the show week; duties to be assigned by representative of CSPCA BOD
- Competes in Junior Showmanship at Nationals
- Assists with Junior Showmanship fundraising activities
When the following criteria are met to the satisfaction of the Junior Advisor, every qualifying junior member will receive a $150 grant. The National Specialty Grant can be awarded even if the applicant has already earned other junior grants in the same calendar year.
Grants from The Ernest Albright Memorial Trust may not be awarded in part or in full each year, due to lack of applicants, lack of eligible Junior Handlers or the satisfaction of the CSPCA Board with any applicant in a given year. Any grants not awarded will be held in the Trust and become, in total, part of the principal of the Trust without affecting any future annual donations by the CSPCA.
The CSPCA Board of Directors will administer the Trust, and any costs associated with the administration of the Trust will be absorbed by the CSPCA, above and beyond any annual donations to the Trust.
The CSPCA Board of Directors may, as circumstances demand, amend any of the terms and/or conditions or any other factors governing The Ernest Albright Junior Handler Trust, as it deems necessary according to its sole discretion.
